In keeping with the 3 tier system of eye care delivery, Globe Eye Foundation has, in partnership with Operation Eye Sight Universal, India, established Vision Centres at Bangarpet and Mulbagal, in Kolar district, The Eye Care Centre were also supported by Cognizant Foundation.
Each Vision Centre, under one supervisor, offers its eye care services to the surrounding 50 thousand population. Each Vision Centre comprises two clusters, each of which has a 25 thousand population. Each Programme Supervisor with his team of community health workers conducts a door to door check for determining the vision status of each individual in each cluster. A detailed record of the eye health status of each individual is maintained by the community health workers. Individuals identified with symptoms of Cataract, refractive error and other eye ailments are referred to Vision Centre.
Each Vision Centre has a qualified an optometrist and an optical sales person. The Optometrist conducts a comprehensive eye examination on patients referred from the clusters. Patients needing surgical treatment for Cataract are taken to the base hospital where the surgery is conducted.
